The Mentoring Scheme was launched in May 2005 and is designed to provide practical help and advice to women members of the Association (it may be that it will be extended in due course) who are contemplating having children or who are returning to practice or have resumed practice having had children.
It is a difficult and demanding time for everyone and we are keen to help by offering the services of another barrister who has first hand experience to advise, encourage and support a colleague. We think that it is important that the mentor should come from a different set of chambers so that the individual can speak freely without any concerns about their status in chambers being affected or possible professional rivalries.
If you would like to take part in the scheme, please email your name, chambers, type of practice and stage (ie, pregnant, off work or just returning) to Margaret Bowron QC on margaret.bowron@1cor.com. She will endeavour to match you up with one of our mentors. From there on, it is up to the two of you to devise the ways in which the scheme can most help you.
We very much hope that the scheme will make a difference. Any feedback should also be sent to Margaret Bowron on the above address.
